MOROI

I looked out the window, wondering when the sun would set. I hoped, dusk would be approaching soon. I could not stop thinking about the night before. I went for a walk in the garden late last night. As I looked over the hedges, I could see something or someone. I was not sure, what it was… As I peered closer to get a better look, the figure disappeared. Was I dreaming? No, I am sure I saw something.

Tonight I will go outside just before dusk, in hopes to get a better look, in case the something or someone comes back.  I have always been a curious person. Wanting to know everything. Now in my early twenties, I am just as curious. It’s almost dusk, I quickly get dressed. I must bring a warm jacket, hat and scarf.  Oh… And gloves.  I hate the cold.  So, if I do happen to gaze upon this creature again, then I want to be ready. Ready for anything.

As I leave  my flat and lock up, I think, maybe I should bring a flashlight. So, I go back in and grab a light. It’s so very quiet outside tonight. The moon is full, the birds are still and the trees have stopped dancing.  I feel a little nervous, as I walk to the end of the garden and look over the hedge, I see… I see…  nothing. I turn on my flashlight to get a better look. I know I saw something last night.

It’s very dark outside.  I am wondering if I should wait until daybreak, then I can go out by the trees and get a better look.  As I am walking back to the flat, I hear a noise, so I hurry to get inside.  Just as I step inside, something grabs my shoulder. I scream and quickly turn around. There is my best friend Saul laughing at me.

“I scared you”, he said.

I pushed him back, and said, “what the hell, you ass, I almost had a heart attack.”

” Why are you so skittish,  Saul asked?”

“I saw something last night out by the trees, behind the garden,” I replied.

“Well there is a lot of trees back there, could have been an animal of some sorts, ” Saul said.

” I don’t know, I said, it looked pretty big.  I am not sure, but I think it was a person.”

” A person, well that’s no good, you don’t want some weirdo running around in the woods, so close to your place.” Saul replied.

“Yeah, I know… But you know me, I had to go out and look.”

Saul answered,  “ya, I know you, you are always getting into something.”

“Ya, whatever,” I said, as I cracked a smile.

The next morning, I woke up early. I planned to do a little investigating, hoping to see something. I went outside and locked my door.  When I walked around the garden, towards the trees, I saw a shiny image. As I got closer, the suns rays were shinning upon a silver area by the tree. “What the heck is this,” I thought.  I reached out to touch the tree.  All of a sudden the silver area disappeared.  I jumped back and yelled, “ouch!” The area on the tree was hot, now I have burned my fingers.

As I turn around, to head back home, I noticed a black shadow that is running through the trees. I yell, “hello… hello,” but it disappears.  Now, I am nervous. What could it be?  I quickly hurry back to get  inside.  I turn around one last time. I see a man standing by the tree. He is looking at me. He is wearing a long coat and dressed all in black. He has black hair, dark as coal. I run back inside and lock my door.

  1. Hello, good job on your first story. I liked the suspense and the pacing. I would like to point out that “last night” does get a little repetitive and distracting, especially in the first paragraph. There are a couple of punctuation errors and I’d suggest bringing the conversation into quotations, so that it is easier to follow.
    Keep up the good work!
