Phone rings…
Girl: “Hello?”
Guy: “Hey.”
Girl: “What?”
Guy: “Huh?”
“What do you want?”
“What do you mean what?”
“What do you want?”
Guy: “Whatever.”
“What do u want?”
“I’m just checking in.”
“For what?”
“Just checking in.”
Girl: “Whatever!”
Guy: “Yeah, whatever.”
Girl hangs up the phone.
5 minutes later…
Phone rings…
Which version do you like better? Using Girl/Guy or Lisa/Jerry
Phone rings…
“Hello?”
“Hey Lisa.”
“What Jerry?”
“Huh?”
“What do you want Jerry?”
“What do you mean what?”
“What do you want?” Lisa raises her voice.
“Whatever.” Jerry answers sharply.
“What do u want?”
“I’m just checking in.”
“For what?”
“Just checking in.”
Frustrated Lisa replies, “Whatever!”
Jerry shouts, “Yeah, whatever.”
Lisa hangs up the phone.
5 minutes later…
Phone rings….
Actually I thought it was funnier (and more relatable) with just the generic girl/guy titles… those kinds of conversations are so laughably typical and you captured it well! 😉

Thank you. 🙂 I think, I will put both versions up.

Great start! I laughed at the thought that at the end, the whole thing is about to begin anew.
Now, take that same conversation and leave out the “guy” and “girl.” Since the girl goes first, she can say, “Hello, Bud.” ( or whatever his name is) And you are off and running. You can add a definite tone of voice for each person and a name every once and a while to keep everything straight. Remember this: Your reader is smart. S/he will get the drift right away. If you get it wrong you will know it and your reader will, too. If you get it right, everyone will know it and be happy.
