Great Scott!

Well, last night was something else.  The rain decided to make a surprise visit and brought along an unwanted guest.  A powerful thunderstorm.  The party went on for the next hour.  It wasn’t just one lightning bolt,  here and there, we are talking multiples over and over.  So, you had your typical lightning, from the sky down to earth.  After that, things got crazy, just like in “Back to the Future” where Doc and Marty take off in the DeLorean.

The lightning bolts were all over the place.  Some straight across the sky, then back again like a boomerang.  Others looked like spider webs, while some were as pink as cotton candy. I didn’t mind the lightning, but you know with lightning comes thunder.  The thunder was so loud, I jumped right out of bed and screamed, “Great Scott!”  No, but I wish I had, it is was more like, “I’m scared!”  I ran off to get my lantern, just in case the lights went out.

The storm reminded me of the time, when I drove from California to Florida.  I was able to experience the wonders of mother nature, during the rainy season.  Arizona and Texas had beautiful lightning shows, that lite up the sky.  One day while in Texas, I stopped at a gas station and was told a tornado was about 100 miles away.  It was already windy, so I decided it was time to get out of there.

On to jazzy Louisiana, now there’s a thunderstorm!  I remember the first night, that I had arrived at the hotel, just as I get into bed… Boom!  The room lite up, like the 4th of July.  The thunder was so loud, I thought someone had blown up the parking lot.  I looked out the window, expecting to see the worse disaster.  It was just the thunder, saying “welcome to Louisiana.”  The next day, I  finally reach my destination, sunny Florida.

Don’t be fooled, by Florida’s beautiful weather.  One minute it will be sunny and blue, then the next minute, the sky will be gray, pouring down buckets of rain.  The thunder and lightning can be pretty intense.  You should know, that this will happen every three to four hours, through out the day.  If you plan it right, you can go swim or fish, then run back inside when the rain starts, then run out when it stops.

So, back to last night, at my place.  Lets welcome back, the thunder of hell.  After, I put my lantern down by the bed and got comfy watching TV, that is when hell broke loose.  Man, oh man it was loud.  I heard this terrible rumble, similar to an earthquake noise, but much louder.  The thunder was getting louder and louder.  It was so loud, that my house was shaking.   I just froze, wondering what is next.

It was not for a second, the thunder seemed to go on forever.  I found out the closer the thunder, the closer the lightning.  I will always remember that noise and frightening feeling of helplessness.  It sounded like the earth had cracked open.  All I could do, was sit there with my lantern, my minion blanket (yes, I have one) and enjoy the show.  Actually, the lightning was the only part of the show, that I enjoyed.

So, do you have a story to tell?  I’d love to hear anyone, share their thunderstorm experience.  Pictures anyone?

The warmth of the sun filled my soul

tooopen_201211171625076230You know that feeling you have, when standing in a ray of sunshine.  A tingling sensation passes through your body, with such a wonderful warmth.  It seems to awaken the soul and give you that extra rush of energy that your body craves.  You never realize that feeling, when you’re laying in your bed, wondering if you should get up.

It’s so easy, to just stay inside your house with all your comforts.  So, on days that your feeling blue or just need that extra boost of energy, try going outside and find that ray of sunshine.  You will be surprised, on how much your body can rejuvenate, with a touch of mother nature.

So, go ahead and get outside.  You’ll be glad you did and your body will thank you.

Can you smell the apple crisp?

My family loves to cook, bake and eat.  In my family we have carnivores, vegetarian, vegans and raw foodies. Holidays are always so fun, the food planning that’s a different story. Oh… I almost forgot, there are also people in my family, with gluten sensitivity and lactose intolerant. Even though everyone has their own way of eating, we try to make everyone happy.  When my family eats, they celebrate.

We have excellent cooks and bakers in our family. My father use to own Italian restaurants. We always try to outdo one another, trying to see whose food taste the best. My grandmother used to make Panettone. It’s a soft bread, with raisins. She would make large ones as big as a pizza pan. She was the best baker in the family.  Through the years we still like to carry on tradition, of making favorite dishes, that are loved ones use to make.

A favorite dish of mine, was my grandmothers apple crisp.  When I make apple crisp, like my grandmother did, it reminds me of her. The smell of the cinnamon and apples, baking in the oven, brings on a comforting feeling of being with my grandmother. Even though my grandmother is no longer here, the day I make apple crisp, it feels like she is right by my side.

Do you have fond memories, of cooking with your family?

Let’s make today, a Great day!

day

Good morning and good evening, depending on where you live. Let’s make today a great one! Not so easy, huh… Well, if you woke up today that’s great! I have some bad days, at times more bad, then good. When I open my eyes in the morning, that’s one great thing. If I am able to see the outside, go for a walk, see the birds and the trees, that’s another great thing.

So, if your day is not going the way you want it too… Look around there might be some other things that you can appreciate. So let’s make today a Great one. 🙂

Blogging Neighbor…

So, I am on to assignment 3 today, for blogging101 course. Trying to play catch up… The assignment For yesterday, was meet your neighbors. I had to follow 5 new blogs and 5 new topics, I think that’s right. Wow… Not as easy as I thought. Everytime, I would start to read a blog that I liked, I noticed at the end of the post it was category that I was already following.

I then went out to the freshly pressed blogs, then to readers favorite blogs, then topics, tags, etc… I finally settled on topics. My new blogs that I decided to follow are humor, family, art, culture and travel. I read some great blogs today, that I wouldn’t have read, if I had not done my assignment. Some of them, might not have been my favorite categories, but I quite enjoyed reading them, after scrolling through the topics list.

Being able to see blogs from all over the world is quite exciting. I even discovered one blog, where I and the blogger had the same phobias. I thought… Wow… There is someone out there like me and the thing we have in common is more than just typing away on our blog. Well, that’s what I learned today. Take a chance and try to follow someone, you might never of thought of following. You might be pleasantly surprised, to learn a thing or two.

What will be… C’est la vie…

catsThe name of my blog is “whatever it is, it’s not so bad.”  Today I have changed my title, for my second blogging101 assignment.  I guess, they want to know if I know how to change my title.  Yes, I do.  The reason I picked my original title is because I try to see the positive, that life has to offer.  Life has many challenges, good and bad.  When I open my blog each day, I can glance at the title, to see a little reminder, that life is okay.

That what will be, will be. As long as I try to give my best effort, life can’t be that bad.  We tend to complain about our life, the obstacles that we face, the ups and downs.  Sometimes, it seems there is too many downs and not enough ups.  One way I remind myself to be positive, is that I have another day on this earth.  I wake up and say, “thank you, for another day.”  To myself, of course…lol.  I get another chance to see the trees, the sky and the birds.  Another day to see my family and friends.

When I was younger, I would say, “whatever,” when I didn’t like something or things weren’t going my way.  Whatever this, whatever that…  I wouldn’t really think things through, just a quick whatever would do.  I even had a friend who I hadn’t spoken to for a number of years, ask me if I still said, whatever.  I never thought, I said it that much.  Now, my feelings have changed, about using that word. Actually, I rarely say the word anymore. My new saying is “C’est la vie.”

It is a French saying, which means “that’s life or that’s the way it goes.”  So this is reason, I choose my title, “whatever it is, it’s not so bad.”
